Greater Minnesota Worker Center (GMWC) has recently secured a grant from the MN Department of Labor and Industry.

The Earned Sick and Safe Time outreach grant program aims to achieve two primary objectives:

Worker Education and Empowerment: The program seeks to enhance worker knowledge and awareness of Minnesota’s newly established earned sick and safe time law. This will be accomplished through comprehensive outreach initiatives, educational campaigns, and the provision of technical assistance. The focus is on empowering workers with a thorough understanding of their legal rights and entitlements under this law.

Overcoming Access Barriers: The program places a specific emphasis on reaching out to Minnesota workers who encounter barriers that limit their access to information about their rights and available legal remedies. It aims to bridge this informational gap by employing community-centered, culturally relevant, and accessible methods of outreach and education. By tailoring its approaches to different communities’ needs, the program aims to ensure that all workers, especially those facing obstacles, are informed about and able to benefit from the earned sick and safe time law.

Overall, the program seeks to not only disseminate information but also empower workers by ensuring that they have the necessary knowledge to utilize their rights effectively, irrespective of any barriers they may face. This multifaceted approach is intended to create a more inclusive and informed working environment for all Minnesota workers.

The GMWC will utilize this grant to establish outreach and information-sharing on Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST) leave initiatives aimed at benefiting essential workers and the broader community in St. Cloud. This funding enables GMWC to expand its reach and support for this vital segment of the community, addressing their unique needs and contributing to a more informed and empowered workforce.
