Community Organizations Meet with Mayor Anderson to Discuss Impact of Increased ICE Activity

Recently, the Greater Minnesota Worker Center joined Fe y Justicia and a group of local community members in meeting with St. Cloud Mayor, Jake Anderson, to discuss growing concerns about the impact of increased ICE activity throughout St. Cloud and surrounding communities.

For the past three months, immigrant families and many Black and Brown residents have reported experiencing heightened fear, uncertainty, and disruption as federal immigration enforcement activities have increased across the region. Community organizations have witnessed firsthand how these actions have affected workers, families, students, and local businesses, creating barriers to daily life and contributing to widespread anxiety throughout our communities.

During the meeting, coalition partners shared stories and concerns from community members and emphasized the need for local leadership to understand the real impacts these enforcement activities are having on residents. Organizations also discussed the importance of maintaining trust between local institutions and the diverse communities that make St. Cloud strong.

The Greater Minnesota Worker Center appreciates Mayor Anderson’s willingness to meet with community organizations and hear directly from residents and advocates. We hope that he will use his Annual Address to the City in April as an opportunity to publicly address these concerns and show his support of the immigrant community in St Cloud.

As these challenges continue to affect our communities, GMWC will continue organizing, advocating, and building collective power to support workers and families throughout Greater Minnesota.
