Know Your Rights: MN Paid leave

Helping Workers Understand Minnesota’s New Paid Leave Program

On June 27, 2026, GMWC hosted a successful Know Your Rights education session to help local workers better understand Minnesota’s new Paid Leave program and how to access this important benefit.

The training provided participants with practical information about the program, including eligibility requirements, the application process, common barriers to approval, and the steps workers must complete to successfully receive Paid Leave benefits. Attendees also received informational handouts and had the opportunity to ask questions about real-life situations they may encounter when applying.

Minnesota’s Paid Leave law was approved by the Minnesota Legislature in May 2023 and officially went into effect on January 1, 2026, providing eligible workers with partial wage replacement and job protection when they need time away from work to recover from a serious health condition, welcome a new child, care for a family member, address certain military-related needs, or seek safety following domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. The program represents a historic step forward in ensuring that workers no longer have to choose between caring for themselves or their loved ones and earning a paycheck. We extend our sincere appreciation to Jeff Ambroz of the Minnesota Training Partnership for facilitating this informative session and for providing educational materials that will help workers confidently navigate the Paid Leave application process. His expertise and commitment to worker education made this event an invaluable resource for our community.
