Standing Together for Justice: Why Greater MN Worker Center Supports The Advocates for Human Rights

At the Greater Minnesota Worker Center (GMWC), we know that strong communities are built when every worker and every family can live with dignity, safety, and access to justice. That is why we were proud to join UFCW Local 663 to stand in solidarity with The Advocates for Human Rights at their December 2025 fundraiser.

Across Minnesota, immigrant workers are facing increasing uncertainty. Many families are navigating complex immigration systems while also working to provide for their loved ones, contribute to our local economies, and build stronger communities. During these challenging times, organizations like The Advocates for Human Rights provide an essential lifeline.

Supporting Immigrant Families Through Legal Advocacy

The Advocates for Human Rights provides free legal services to eligible low-income individuals seeking asylum, unaccompanied children, survivors of human trafficking, and people held in immigration detention throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Their staff and volunteers help individuals understand their legal rights, prepare immigration cases, secure legal representation, and navigate an often overwhelming legal system.

In addition to direct legal services, The Advocates monitor immigration detention conditions, document human rights concerns, educate communities about their rights, and advocate for policies that uphold fairness, due process, and the rule of law. Their work reflects a belief that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of where they were born or the language they speak.

Why This Matters

At GMWC, we organize low-wage workers to build collective power for safe workplaces, fair wages, and respect on the job. Many of the workers we organize are immigrants whose lives extend beyond the workplace. They are parents, neighbors, faith leaders, and community members who deserve access to justice when their rights are threatened.

Worker justice and immigrant justice cannot be separated. When immigrant workers are afraid to report abuse, wage theft, unsafe working conditions, or discrimination because of immigration concerns, all workers become more vulnerable. Strong legal advocacy helps ensure that workers can exercise their rights without fear.

We deeply appreciate The Advocates for Human Rights for standing alongside immigrant communities and providing compassionate, expert legal support when it is needed most.
